We started session with a recap. Followed by circle of names. A few new members joined.
Started session from page 20 "Give me your real fucking name". Pointing at the person you're trying to effect. Still using the same set up (the feeder feeding the line and then the actor saying it). Bearing in mind all the exercises we've done before and keep doing!
Alex: Lets say, if there is a stage direction, you don't have to do the stage direction but do something you like, something physical. There is no right or wrong way but something you feel in the moment. Also every time I clap my hand tell me whether the situation has got "Worse"or "Better" for you, from the last time I clapped.
Alex: I'd also like you to try and keep a SIX foot distance between you... and you are only allowed to come in towards each other once. So pick carefully, still maintaining the action of 'pointing at the person you want to affect'
Alex: This time I want you to say the name of the person your speaking to THREE times before you say the line. Have a go and play around with it. Maybe, almost like the first time he doesn't hear, the second maybe you're not sure he's heard and the third lands in his guts.
Moving on to Page 30
This time say the name of the person you're speaking to, then the line, then the name again.
Martin: Paul. "We are torturing people" Paul
Paul responds with picking a word that he feels most affects him.
Paul: "Torturing" Martin
Martin: "Torturing Paul. We are torturing people Paul"
Alex: So you're really emphasising that word. Repeating it as if they didn't hear the first time or to re-affirm. Use the names to help direct the line, if you felt you wanted to use their full name then do. Saying someones full name means something completely different. Alexandra Stephen Thomas Hassell means something different to Al or Alex.
If for example the policeman is speaking to Kieran, Damian and Jethro. Then say all three names before and after the line.
Johnathan: "Kieran, Damian, Jethro good evening campers.
Kieran: Campers Johnathan?
Damian: Campers Johnathan?
Jethro : Campers Johnathan?
Johnathan: Campers Kieran, Damian, Jethro. Keiran, Damian, Jethro good evening campers Keiran Damian Jethro.
Tea Break
We continued with exercise for a little while longer.
Page 41 in some scripts or 48 in others.
Alex: I'd like you to say the line clearly to the person you want to affect or the person your speaking to. That person repeats it back to you as maybe he's not satisfied. Keep this process of repeating going until you're both completely happy. Almost like it will land when it will land, if you feel you could go on ~ do go on. Allowing the game to take over. Be brave. Sometimes you'll find that you mirror each other that's okay.
Alex: The last exercise was with the Tom's. All the people playing Tom went to one end of the room and everyone else the other. The feeder feeds the Tom's, who are in a team, they discuss for five seconds their tactics on how they are going to deliver the line. The rest of us are like a jury at court or lets say an exam board. The Toms all rally together in order to help the main Tom (the one currently delivering the lines) be understood. When a member of the exam board has replied, the baton is passed to a new Tom.
Yes Yes
Great session
