BBC Radio Project Brief
Following the four months of exploration with BBC Radio Drama, we are now launching the next Writers Studio Brief.
It goes as follows...
Write a short audio piece (3 minutes or so, 5 mins max), which is to be recorded at a location of your choosing, somewhere in London.
You should really think about how these places sound, and what that sound suggests to you, and how it could be used dramatically. Office spaces, restaurants, riversides, stations, parks, tourist attractions, shopping centres, in vehicles, stairwells, lifts - they all suggest something different and can be used as laterally as you like.
In keeping with the style we have been exploring, there will be no post-production - the parameter is that all effects must be produced during the live recording.
We encourage you to think about everything that’s been considered in the wake of the sessions and not to be afraid of embracing the happy accidents of location recording.
The format of the project will be that each Monday night (or depending on what the pieces require as a suitable time during day-times / night-times or specific points in a week) we will record a piece on location, whilst the following week’s piece is rehearsed and developed at Factory HQ.
From these recordings we wish to produce a collection of short-form dramas that can be accessed as Factory Podcasts.
The pieces that prove to be the most effective in this form will be selected for the first season of these Factory Audio Drama Podcasts, which will be widely marketed and promoted by The Factory.
All actors must learn their lines for the recording. There must be no script holding, so that we play as directly to one another on mic.
